Tarot cards: The Tarot is the most popular tool for spiritual introspection in the West. I Ching coins (I Ching, Yi King, Yi Jing , or I Ging ): A Chinese book of ancient origin consisting of 64 interrelated hexagrams, each of which can be further broken down into groups of 3 lines called "trigrams", along with commentaries attributed to Confucius. The hexagrams embody Taoist philosophy by describing all nature and human endeavor in terms of the interaction of yin and yang (the passive and feminine force respectively). Reading the I Ching involves casting coins or yarrow stalks.

Norse runes: Rune readings are arrangements of the 24 letters of an old alphabet. The layout of the runes is known as a spread, and determines what each rune refers to. Runes are not exclusives artifacts used among Wiccans and pagans. Runes could be made of ceramic, stone, or wood; the material is the item that colors the reading.
